Environmental Benefits

It is estimated that 1 million CCA treated timber posts are stockpiled, burnt, buried or sent to landfill in New Zealand.

Before Repost, large scale recycling or repurposing options for CCA treated timber posts were non-existent in New Zealand. Small numbers were being reused by farmers with the trellis clips and nails, wire and plastic remaining on them.

The commercial scale of Repost has turned the tide on this waste issue, by allowing a cost-effective waste processing solution for the posts through their portable hydraulic clip/nail removal machines. This sustainable system has revolutionised viticulture waste practices; by purchasing Repost fence posts you are collectively promoting efficient use of NZ resources, waste reduction and economic resilience.

Repost has proved there is a substantial market and appetite for recycled CCA treated timber products in NZ. Transforming the CCA treated timber post take, make and waste model into one where this CCA wooden waste is a resource that can be re-circulated, and the carbon lifecycle of the wood can be continued to be stored and locked up. It closes the loop of what one industry (viticulture) does with their waste by recycling that resource for another (the farming sector).

In it’s short life, Repost has already achieved remarkable milestones.  Since is creation in early 2021 to July 2024, it has diverted over 6571 tonnes (just over 600,000 posts) of CCA post waste including over 420 tonnes of recovered cyclone timber showing sustainable outcomes can also be met after large weather events. Absent of Repost, most of that cyclone CCA timber waste would have ended up in kiwi landfills.

The domestic market for wooden posts exceeds 200,000 tonnes per annum, Repost has the potential to make a continued impact in providing a low-cost sustainable fence posts market.

Repost has addressed a rural social need in creating a low-cost valuable fence post market allowing those on limited budgets to still have access to fence posts to enable effective stock management, pasture production and riparian fencing among.

Every post sold is one less to landfill. There is value in re-using quality broken posts that if they hadn’t broken to shorter lengths at ground level would have remained trellis posts for the 50 years plus warranty they’re designed for. They have simply provided the pathway.

What is the lifespan of Repost Posts?

Second-hand has a general view of poorer quality, not at Repost. We have proven there is value in our recovered resource, the 100’s of farmers to date with many repeat customers shows this.

Vineyards and orchards purchase premium wooden posts for their quality and longevity for their trellis application. The warranty on these post new are 50 years but we know many of these posts last much longer. Broken posts at ground level have lifespan left in them and that’s where Repost comes in.

Through our quality control and regular Hills treatment tests to assure the CCA levels meet industry standards you can feel assured purchasing our recovered low-cost posts will stand the test of time, saving your money and you are playing a role in positive recovery behaviour . We stand by our product.

You should feel when purchasing our products that for every post sold to you is one less to landfill. Your a promoting better sustainable practices, but you should also feel assured that this recovered resource can stand for a length lifespan yet!
